MS2132 USB 3.2 Gen1 HD Video Capture Sample

UltraSemi has developed a USB 3.2 Gen1 HD video capture sample based on the MacroSilicon MS2132. It targets live capture, video conferencing, security monitoring, medical imaging, and other scenarios that require stable HD input and driver-free USB output. The sample uses a compact board form factor for function evaluation, system integration, and secondary development verification.

Product Positioning

MS2132 is suitable for HD-to-USB video capture products, converting HD signals into standard USB audio/video device output. On the host side, common live streaming, meeting, recording, and visual analysis software can access the device directly without a dedicated end-user driver.

The key value of this type of solution is reduced integration complexity: cameras, microscopes, industrial cameras, media players, or other HD sources connect on the input side, while Windows, Android, Linux, or macOS hosts receive the signal through USB.

Sample Specifications

The current sample is planned and promoted with the following specifications:

  • Maximum HD input resolution: 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz RGB444.
  • Maximum USB output resolution: 3840 x 2160 @ 60Hz, with MJPEG output.
  • Video output formats: YUV422, MJPEG, RGB24, NV12.
  • Audio output: 96kHz / 24bit and 48kHz / 16bit stereo.
  • USB protocol: USB 3.2 Gen1.
  • Host compatibility: Windows, Android, Linux, macOS.
  • Secondary development: built-in MCU with expandable GPIO, PWM, SID, and related control capabilities.

Specific format combinations, bandwidth usage, and compatibility should be confirmed through testing with the target firmware configuration, host platform, and application software.

Key Capabilities

4K@60Hz MJPEG Capture

For 4K video capture, USB bandwidth, encoding format, and host decoding capability all affect the final experience. The sample targets 4K@60Hz MJPEG as a high-spec output mode, suitable for applications that require image detail and frame rate while maintaining UVC standard compatibility.

In live streaming and conferencing scenarios, MJPEG output can be recognized directly by many applications. In embedded and industrial scenarios, it also makes image acquisition through standard video device interfaces straightforward.

HD 2.0 Input

The sample supports HD 2.0 input for 4K sources. Design validation should focus on EDID configuration, HDCP handling strategy, hot-plug stability, color format negotiation, and signal margin with different cable lengths.

For customer products, ESD protection, input protection, connector strength, and power noise control on the HD input side also affect mass-production reliability.

UVC / UAC Driver-Free Output

The MS2132 capture sample is designed for standard UVC video and UAC audio output. Host systems can usually recognize it as a USB camera and USB audio device, making it suitable for OBS, Zoom, Teams, VLC, OpenCV, browser-based capture, and industry software.

Driver-free operation still requires practical compatibility work. Different operating systems, browsers, meeting applications, and capture frameworks handle format enumeration, default resolution, audio sample rate, and device names differently, so target software environments should be covered early in the sample stage.

Applications

Live Capture

The sample can capture HD signals from cameras, game consoles, switchers, or media players to a computer for live streaming, recording, and content production. 4K@60Hz MJPEG covers high-spec input requirements.

Video Conferencing

It can convert conference cameras, meeting hosts, or presentation devices into USB camera input for mainstream conferencing software, improving compatibility between traditional HD devices and modern video meeting systems.

Security Monitoring

It can be used to capture HD output from NVRs, cameras, or inspection equipment into a PC or embedded host for display, recording, analysis, and remote transmission.

Medical Imaging

For endoscopes, microscopes, imaging workstations, and other HD output equipment, USB capture can simplify integration with host-side software. Medical products still require dedicated design around certification, isolation, protection, and software compliance.

Secondary Development

The sample reserves built-in MCU and peripheral control capabilities for customized keys, LED status, GPIO triggers, PWM control, device descriptors, default formats, and vendor-specific control commands. For capture cards, inspection equipment, or industry terminals moving toward mass production, secondary development can help create product differentiation.

UltraSemi can provide sample evaluation, interface definition, EDID configuration, firmware parameter tuning, and system adaptation support around MS2132, helping customers move from board-level validation to product design.

Summary

This MS2132 USB 3.2 Gen1 HD video capture sample addresses typical 4K HD input to driver-free USB capture requirements, while balancing high resolution, cross-platform compatibility, and secondary development space. For customers developing live capture, video conferencing, security monitoring, or medical imaging devices, it can serve as a reference platform for quickly validating the video path and product form factor.

Final functions, format support, and compatibility should be based on sample testing and mass-production firmware configuration.
