D125 HD Electronic Magnifier Solution

See more detail. Keep costs down. A QFN88 SoC, 16 MB SiP-integrated PSRAM and external Flash, a 720P DVP camera, and a 240×320 color display form a cost-effective vision platform for portable reading and observation products.

Overview

Designed for handheld electronic magnifiers, reading aids, and portable observation products, this solution uses the D125 SoC platform to combine 720P image capture, real-time image processing, display control, storage expansion, LED illumination, and battery connectivity.

The pictured D125CCS integrates 16 MB PSRAM in its SiP package and provides 40 KB SRAM for runtime data, image buffering, and display processing. The current design uses external Flash for firmware and resources, with capacity selected for the project. Custom SiP-integrated Flash is also supported to further reduce external components and board area.

Architecture

The 720P DVP camera captures images. The D125 SoC receives, processes, and scales the image, then drives the 240×320 display in real time.

Eight high-brightness LEDs form a wide-radius ring around the camera. This layout can improve close-range illumination uniformity and reduce local shadows and central overexposure for reading, electronic component observation, and detail inspection.

Key advantages

Cost-effective platform options

The D125 platform combines display and image processing with integrated RAM. Camera, display, and external Flash capacity can be selected to balance product features and system cost.

High integration

The D125CCS integrates 16 MB PSRAM in its SiP package and provides 40 KB SRAM. Integrating this runtime memory reduces external RAM components and routing. The current design uses external Flash for program storage; custom SiP-integrated Flash is available for projects requiring fewer discrete components and less Flash routing.

Minimal BOM

The core system consists of the SoC, external Flash, DVP camera, display, TF card slot, USB-C, battery connector, and LED illumination circuit. Fewer peripheral components simplify sourcing, assembly, testing, and production management.

Compact design

The QFN88 package, SiP-integrated RAM, and compact connector placement reduce PCBA area and leave more room for a thin, portable enclosure.

Uniform ring illumination

Eight LEDs surround the centrally positioned camera in a larger-radius ring. The camera FPC passes between two LEDs, maintaining a compact structure while improving close-range lighting.

Sourcing and production

Integrated RAM reduces external memory components and assembly work. External Flash capacity can be selected for project requirements to support inventory planning; delivery schedules depend on the selected parts and availability.

Configurable features

The following features can be developed according to project requirements:

  • Real-time image magnification
  • Multiple digital zoom levels
  • Image freeze
  • Display brightness adjustment
  • LED illumination adjustment
  • Color, monochrome, and high-contrast display modes
  • Image or video storage on a TF card
  • USB-C charging and data connection
  • Automatic power-off and low-battery indication

Applications

  • Handheld electronic magnifiers
  • Reading aids for older adults and people with low vision
  • Children's nature observation and educational products
  • Electronic component and PCB repair inspection tools
  • Jewelry, print, and textile detail inspection devices
  • Portable industrial observation terminals
  • Cost-effective consumer electronics
